Excellent projector! Reviews Epson V11H501020 PowerLite Home Cinema 3020 2D and 3D 1080p Home Theater Projector

This Epson V11H501020 Home Theater Projector 3020 purchase was one of the smartest I have made. We were looking for a replacement for the 2004 projector in our home theater. Wanted a mid-range price with brightness, 1080P, and 3-D. 3-D want a desired capability for our eight year old grandson.

Cheap EPSON PowerLite Home Cinema 3020 3D 3LCD Projector: 1920 x 1080 resolution
I bit the bullet and bought the projector along with a 133" fixed screen. The first impression, when it came on, was WOW! I could not believe how much brighter it was than our five year old projector. I checked all the resolution and it worked on all, including 1080p. The resolution, clarity, and definition is great.
  • Color brightness: 2300 lumens
  • White brightness: 2300 lumens
  • 2D-to-3D conversion
  • Up to 40,000:1 contrast ratio
  • Includes 2 pairs of RF 3D glasses
I've learned about basic to mid-level calibrations of both audio and video devices, and am exceptionally anal retentive when it comes to both. I watch TV, play video games and watch movies on the projector. Out of the box it was surprisingly well calibrated. All I had to do was drop the contrast a bit, and very subtly tweak the color saturation and tint to get a good, well balanced initial calibration.

Epson V11H501020 PowerLite 3D 1080p Home Theater Projector Pros:
  • Excellent picture quality, feels like a movie theatre.
  • Picture looks great right out of the box without having to make any adjustments or calibration.
  • Amazing price for the picture size.
  • 2 HDMI inputs gives you more flexibility.
Epson V11H501020 PowerLite  3D 1080p Home Theater Projector Cons:
  • Projector does make some rattling sounds while it is processing the incoming signals. This will not be an issue if it is ceiling mounted. You will hear it only if you are sitting next to the projector and you are watching a quiet scene, but it is not a big deal at all.
  • Projector takes about 30 seconds to warm up.
The colors look great and the blacks are good. We're using a 133" diagonal screen, and it's plenty bright, too even in 3D. The projector doesn't handle a lot of ambient light, though at least to me. Great picture quality at the right price. I am very happy with the purchase.

Compared to the Optoma, this Epson V11H501020 PowerLite Home Cinema is a behemoth. It's easily 2.5-3 times the size. That said, it's not that heavy, so a standard ceiling mount should work just fine. The keystone and adjustment controls are very easy to use.

If you're computer savvy I'd relate it to a 120mm CPU fan vs 250mm case fan. Overall, I'm very happy with the noise level. I don't know why anyone would buy a projector like this without already having at least a really nice sound bar or basic 5.1 receiver setup.

Sound is really the biggest part of the theater experience, so at least go to WalMart and buy a cheap entry level 5.1 system before going for the biggest, clearest picture possible. I had an entry level 5.1 system on my old PoS TV years ago and it helped a ton with the movie experience.

I buy this Epson V11H501020 Projector for clearest picture not for 7.1 sound experience. Buy the Epson Home Cinema 3020 1080p 3D 3LCD Projector at a super low price.

This Epson V11H501020 PowerLite Home Cinema 3020 2D and 3D 1080p Home Theater Projector product earned 69 customer reviews and 94% are satisfied (as 17/01/2014). If you want a true cinema/theater level projector you're looking at 3-4x the cost of this one. For ~1600 this unit is great.
